Two Things in My Sight Line

I’m writing this weeks HELLO FRIENDS while sitting alone in the middle of the church lobby. I may or may not be humming the 1975 classic by Eric Carmen, “All by myself, don’t wanna be, all by myself, anymore….”
I trust I’m not alone in saying how much I miss the gathering together of our entire congregation! As you know, however, there is still a great deal of uncertainty as to when we will be able to meet again in large formats. We continue to monitor the situation, follow protocols, seek wisdom, and pray for creative solutions. Please join us in prayer!
Our team keeps hearing wonderful stories of people that are so grateful for our “Church at Home” online services, however, we do get asked often, “when are we going to resume services at the building?” It is my sense, as your pastor, that our “virtual” services will continue to be our primary “corporate gathering” until, at least, the end of June. In the meantime, we are actively developing a “re-entry plan” for corporate worship, children and youth ministries, and various groups, of all sizes. Again, we invite you to be praying with us during this time.
Indeed, the Church has been “Scattered” – it has left the building!
But today while I’m sitting alone in the building I thought I would point out TWO things that are in my sight line.

1.  The NEW Ministry Center.

I can see out the lobby windows, across the Courtyard, to our NEW Ministry Center. Workers are actively wrapping it up, and it is nearly completed! It’s fully painted. Flooring is in. Our sound system has been installed and the stage is set. Appliances are in. A beautiful brick wall is going into the Cafe’ today. The basketball court is being paved very soon. All the work is being wrapped up in the next few weeks…UNDER BUDGET! Thank you to everyone that has given over and above to this awesome project.
I can’t wait for you to see it! And I can’t wait for people of all ages to Encounter Jesus in this space.

2.  The “Big Three” Posters on the Lobby Wall.

Also within my sight line are three posters hanging on the lobby wall. They boldly describe our “Big Three” ministry focuses:  Scripture, Small Groups, and Serving.  It struck me a few moments ago, while looking at these posters, that these focuses are SO IMPORTANT RIGHT NOW!  They truly are the backbone of our personal discipleship, especially in these “scattered” days.
  •  Scripture:  Get a word from God from the Word of God. It’s vital that you and I actively read and meditate on the Scripture. If you’re hungry…feed yourself!
  • Small Groups:  Move from Rows into Circles. We certainly have done that! The sanctuary rows are empty right now, but that doesn’t stop you and I from gathering in small circles of faith with family and trusted friends. We need each other now more than ever!
  • Serving: Each One can Reach One. We encourage you to be contributors, not consumers. Find someone to serve, everyday. Reach out in the name and love of Jesus. Be His hands and feet to a hurting world.
Grace and Peace to you!
