The Season of Harvest and Giving

Hello Friends,

The season of harvest and giving has come.  What a blessing it is to arrive at this point in the calendar again.  Not just the la-de-da of cultural and ecclesiastical dates and duties; but the grace-filled-glory of living in and representing the Kingdom of our Lord.

In the Sermon on the Mount, Jesus directs us in this way:

“Do not lay up for yourselves treasures on earth…but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven…where thieves do not break in and steal.  For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also.” Matthew 6:19-20

“…seek first the Kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you.  Therefore, do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about its own things.  Sufficient for the day are its own needs.” Matthew 6:33

And He gives us a solid principle for giving in Luke 6:38:

“Give, and it will be given to you: Good measure, pressed down, shaken together, and running over will be put into your lap. For with the same measure that you use, it will be measured back to you.”

Join Pastors John and Denise in these two special giving projects:

Canned food for Thanksgiving.  Bring your donations of canned food to the WSFC lobby from now through Sunday, November 22.  Our donations will be distributed to families in our church, to Salem Dream Center, and to Marion-Polk Food Share.  You can start shopping now for canned grocery items.  Look for the shopping bags in the WSFC lobby, shop, and bring stuff back.  Let’s give way over a ton of canned food this Thanksgiving season.

Gift cards for Christmas.  This year we want to bless people at Christmas with pre-loaded gift cards that they can use to shop and pay for the things they need.  Please bring gift card(s) of any amount from local stores, cafes, or Visa cash cards.  Together we can provide blessings to hundreds of neighbors in our community.

As you have received God’s gifts to you, a season of giving is a time of joy.  Think again of all He has done for you, and give Him thanks today.  His glory shines through you as you do the things that you are able to do.  Invest your life completely in His redeeming love.  Give out of the love He has given to you.  Give together with your pastor and church family.  Give and it shall be given to you.  Seek to follow His Kingly rulership and all that you truly need will be added to your life.  Invest your treasure in people, for they are the quest of His Kingdom in this world.

Thankful to give with you,

Pastor Rich
