Stories, thoughts and reflections on the Bible from the WSFC Staff.
This last weekend at our West Salem Foursquare Church gatherings, I issued a two-fold spiritual growth challenge. Here they are:
1. What are you spiritually EATING?
I wanted to remind you of this, as well as invite others reading this to join us. For 21 Days in November we are following our PAUSE Bible Reading Plan and locking into the Book of John. Jump in whatever day you are able. If it’s November 7th then read John 7. If it’s November 12 then read John 12. You get the point! Simple, huh?
The heart behind this is that we would “eat the Scripture” and get a word from God from the Word of God every day. This is so important. Junk food, literally or spiritually, is not enough nourishment for health and growth. So, together, let’s get GOOD FOOD from the Bible!
2. How are you spiritually EXERCISING?
1 Timothy 4:8 tells us that “physical training is of SOME value, but spiritual training (or godliness) has ALL value.” How are you spiritually training or exercising? Do you have a plan? Do you have a partner?
My challenge is to get yourself an exercise partner and put a plan together. Find someone that you can be accountable to for the next 21 days. Check in with them. Allow them to check in with you. Ask the right questions. Ask the hard questions.
Questions such as:
• How are you REALLY doing?
• Where are you at with Jesus?
• What are your weakest areas personally?
• And finally, and this is the best question of all: Have you just lied to me?
Spiritual Eating and Exercise…these “hold promise for both the present life and the life to come (1 Timothy 4:8).
Grace & Peace,
