Religion & Relationship

Hello Friends,

A little girl stayed over for dinner at the home of her friend. The vegetable was buttered broccoli, and the mother asked if she liked it.

The child replied very politely, “Oh yes, I love it.”

But when the bowl of broccoli was passed, she declined to take any. The mother said, “I thought you said you loved broccoli.”

The little girl replied softly, “Oh, yes ma’am, I do, but not enough to eat it.”

I’m coming to discover that there is a huge difference between RELIGION and RELATIONSHIP.

Religion is something you GOTTA DO.  I gotta please and perform.  I gotta do the right things because that is what is expected of me. I gotta go to church and sing silly songs because it’s what good Christians are suppose to do.  This is the essence of RELIGION.

Relationship, on the other hand, is who you WANNA BE.  Big difference between GOTTA and WANNA. Big difference between DOing and BEing.   Relationship invites you to be alive, growing, passionate and free, because you want to.  Relationship is who we are in worship before God, not just the work we do for him.

I prefer relationship over religion, how ’bout you?

Please pass the broccoli.  Thank you.

Blessings.

John

God wants us to see the awesome things that we have in Him. He wants the eyes of our heart and our understanding to be enlightened so that we might know what is the hope of His calling, what are the riches of the glory of His inheritance in the saints, and what is the exceeding greatness of His power toward us who believe.
