Stories, thoughts and reflections on the Bible from the WSFC Staff.

Some of my favorite memories as a child are when my family and I would travel over the mountains to Southern Oregon to visit my grandma for the holidays. (Over the mountains and through the woods to grandmother’s house we go. Yes, that was us.)

We would gather around that long dining room table with family and partake in a big festive feast. Each year, it was sensory overload. The site, smell and taste was enough to send us all into foodie heaven! The thing I will always remember about my grandma during those holidays, besides her delicious cooking, is that she always sent us home with leftovers. She made sure to give us more than enough to be nourished on the journey home!

Recently, I’ve been reading more intentionally about the miracles of Jesus. I’ve been so compelled by the heart of Jesus and how He gives more than people need, and often it seems he does it “just because.” A classic example is the miracle where Jesus feeds the 5,000 in Matthew 14. The disciples were overwhelmed by the amount of people who were gathered and hungry and encouraged Jesus to send them away. But Jesus had a different idea. By multiplying only five loaves and two fish, all the people were fed and the Bible says that every person was satisfied. And, on the ground sat the leftovers of twelve baskets of broken bread. With Jesus, there is always abundantly more than we need.

In John 10:10, Jesus says, “The thief comes only to steal, kill and destroy; I came that they may have life, and have it to the full.”

Are you experiencing fear today? Jesus will give you an overflow of peace.
Is sadness overtaking you? Jesus offers all the comfort you need.
Are you feeling shame? Jesus pours out His grace upon you!
Are you experiencing joy and thankfulness? Jesus celebrates big with you!

In all things, Lord, we thank you and give you glory for the abundant life we find in you!

Peace and Grace,
