Stories, thoughts and reflections on the Bible from the WSFC Staff.
Two days ago I was catching up on some work at a downtown Salem coffeeshop. It got to be around lunchtime and I was getting hungry. A downtown favorite for me is VENTI’S. Before heading there, I asked a local businessman and friend if he wanted to join me. His answer was YES.
While crossing the street, I saw the owner of the local coffeeshop, and asked if I could buy her lunch and bring it back. Her answer was YES.
Then I recognized a young man that attends our church sitting outside the coffeeshop reading a book. I yelled from across the street asking if I could buy him lunch too and bring it back. His answer was YES.
After returning and giving out all the delicious grub, the gal asked me “How much do I owe you for lunch?”
I quickly responded with a Bible verse (I know, I know…so spiritual of me…). I said, “Let no debt remain outstanding, except the continuing debt to love one another.”
I then elaborated: “You owe me nothing. I just wanted to express love for each of you. Thank you for all you do!”
The Bible in general, and specifically the person of Jesus, calls us to LOVE ONE ANOTHER.
It’s not an option. It’s a command.
That’s what we are gonna do for our 2nd Annual LOVE Week taken place June 17-22. We have various opportunities to express love in practical ways. Join us. Go too wsfc.info and register for one or more of the LOVE Week opportunities. Do it today.
Will your answer be YES?
Don’t leave that debt outstanding!
