Living in Community

A couple of weeks ago I celebrated my five year anniversary of being on staff at West Salem Foursquare. I am confident that within this last half decade God has done some really cool things in my life. It has not been without it’s struggles and pain, but I am so thankful that he is growing me and shaping me into being more like him everyday.

By far my most favorite part of being here for this long has been the relationships. And this idea has only been magnified by the fact that I am sitting writing this from our High School summer camp.

I am surrounded by reminders of how amazing it is to be invested and intentional in people’s lives for the long haul. There are cabin leaders here that I had in my cabin as a campers years ago. There are friends and fellow leaders that I have served alongside every camp that I have attended. There are students here that were in 4th grade when I first started working at the church.

Can I just tell you, there is nothing better than getting to know people, investing in each other, and then sticking around long enough to see the fruit that the Holy Spirit is producing in our lives.

Maybe you are having a hard time finding a place to belong in the church or maybe you just needed a reminder… God works in community. It is important in the hard times, it is fun in the good times and it is always worth pursuing and maintaining. And most likely you will see the best in people and the worst (and they’ll see it in you too). Stick it out, show up, be consistent. He’s got something really great in store for you — please don’t miss it 🙂

Thanks for being my home church. Thanks for being my community. I love you guys and I’m so glad that God brought me here.
