Little Pebbles

Hello Friends!

These past few weeks I have found myself running around like a chicken with its head cut off.  I’m carrying worries, wounds, and woes and, of course, trying in all my own strength to pull up my boot straps and just “get it done.”  While I am literally out of breath I sense the Lord in all His gentleness beckoning me to come and spend time with Him.  Knowing in my heart it’s exactly what I need, I kick myself for not doing it sooner.

As I sat in reflection, I was reminded of a word/picture the Lord gave me a couple of years ago. I saw the enemy laughing as he was placing pebbles in our shoes.  His tactics were not to try to take us out with “Big Rocks” but rather with small ones, small enough to fit in our shoes.  Now, those pebbles could be a myriad of things…yours may differ from mine, but their evil intent is the same.

Those pebbles are meant to:

  1. Throw us off balance and cause us to stumble
  2. Annoy us and steal our joy
  3. Distract us/waste our time because we have to stop what we are doing, sit and remove them.

Hebrew 12:1 & 2 says this in the Amplified Bible

Therefore, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses who by faith have testified to the truth of God’s absolute faithfulness, stripping off every unnecessary weight and the sin which so easily and cleverly entangles us, let us run with endurance and active persistence the race that is set before us, looking away from all that will distract us and focusing our eyes on Jesus, who is the Author and Perfecter of faith (the first incentive for our belief and the One who brings our faith to maturity), who for the joy of accomplishing the goal set before Him endured the cross, disregarding the shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God revealing His deity, His authority, and the completion of His work.

We as believers are all called to run this race called faith, but Imagine with me trying to run with pebbles in our shoes!  Painful?  Yes!  Annoying?  Absolutely!  They are distracting us from the goal and rendering us ineffective and incapable. The competitor in me wants to run this race WELL!  I want to finish well also.  I want us to be the people of God who run with endurance and active persistence like scripture tells us, but the key to the race, my friends, is keeping our eyes fixed on Jesus.  We can’t do this without Him, and we are fooling ourselves if we think we can.  We need Him desperately.

So, let’s recognize the enemy’s  tactics and throw out the weights and sin….THEY ARE UNNECESSARY pebbles in our shoes, and let’s focus our eyes on JESUS, the Author and Perfecter or our faith!  With Him we all win!

I love running this race with you!
