I love lists.
What do I love about lists, you may ask? Well, let me give you a list. Just kidding.
I love to write things down. Capture. Document. Journal. Jot. Whatever.
I’ve been told that the three most powerful words in the English language are “I Love You” and the three most practical are “Write it Down.”
So, while celebrating our 25th wedding anniversary Denise and I took time to create a number of lists based upon various discussions, such as “25 Things We Want to Do in the Next 25 Years” and “Places We Want to Visit.” Perhaps the most important list we developed was this one:
“Blessings From the Last 25 Years.”
I won’t bore you with the contents of that list, especially since it’s specific and personal to us (if I told you I’d have to kill you), but suffice it to say, when you actually take the time to compile a list such as this you may be surprised as to how much God has truly blessed your life. So often we simply miss it. The blessings tend to get eclipsed by the burdens and bummer days. As humans we gravitate towards myopic ingratitude when we really ought to “count thy many blessings!”
Last week I was watching an episode of The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon (did you know that I gave Jimmy Fallon a HIGH FIVE two days in a row? We’re pretty much BFF’s). Anyway… Jimmy was interviewing an actor named Terry Crews. This guy was AMPED. He was so fun and energetic (evidenced by his breakdancing moves). Jimmy asked Terry about all his energy and positivity. Terry responded by saying “The key to my energy is gratitude. The more thankful I am the more energy I get.”
Count Thy Many Blessings.
Go ahead and start your list…
