This is Part 3 of a series I’m calling The Kingdom Prayer Plan.
“Give us this day our daily bread.” (Matthew 611)
This important phrase addresses Kingdom Provision. In our prayers we are bringing our hearts to a place of both recognition and request. Recognition that the Giver of all good gifts and blessings is indeed God Almighty. God is the one who bestows upon his children our very life’s breath. It would make sense than that we would turn to him to supply our daily needs.
That brings us to our request. We have been trained since infancy to demand our way and try to get our needs met immediately.
“Gimme, gimme, gimme!” says the anxious child to the fatigued mother.
This mindset does not quickly leave us, and we often carry it right into our adult years only to approach God as if he is a cosmic dispenser of goodies! God is not a glorified gumball machine. You don’t stick your quarter in and expect something to fall out!
However, God, in his mercy, does want us to come to him. He awaits his approaching children and loves to help those truly in need. What he is looking for, I believe, is a grateful heart.
How grateful are you today for the blessings of the Lord? Has he supplied your daily bread? If so, have you said ‘thank you’ yet?
