How does the Kingdom of God work in our life of faith in Him?
Matthew 25:14, 15, 29a. “For the kingdom of heaven is like a man traveling to a far country, who called his own servants and delivered his goods to them. And to one he gave five talents, to another two, and to another one, to each according to his own ability, and immediately he went on a journey. … For to everyone who has, more will be given, and he will have abundance…”.
We invest our faith in what Jesus Christ has done on the cross and in resurrection, because He forgives our sins, provides our new life. He equips us with His presence, the fullness of the Holy Spirit, and sends us into the world where more people can hear and receive this new life. So, how does all of that work in our lives?
As Jesus said in Matthew 25, His Kingdom provides and equips us with value to invest in His purpose. The idea of talents in the passage above pictures, not just a sum of money, but the value of His life having been deposited into your life. He is saying in the illustration that He provides you and me with ability and opportunity that fits our current capacity to participate in His desire to effectively advance and invade the realm of lost people. We are to do this, living by faith in Father, Son and Holy Spirit in our real world. Our mission is to bring His Kingdom to increase, even multiply His influence in their lives and in our own lives. His goal in this world is to rescue and recover the treasured souls of men and women, boys and girls.
Living by faith happens when you and I use courage to open the opportunities we encounter, believing that the power of Christ now in us will result in miracles and blessings in His name. Living by faith in Him will always require perseverance on our part, each one using the love of God, His power given to us, and the opportunities we encounter.
Notice in Matthew 25 that participation in the increase of the Kingdom does not come all at once. The one who received two talents and increased them by two more, was then given more of the master’s resources because his capacity was increased. Same for the one who was given five and doubled those. But the one who did nothing was then put on the sidelines (or, worse) because that person did nothing and gave in to foolish fear. But the ones who increased received more, and, because of the master’s joy, went joyfully on to increase even more. The increase in their faith and the increase in their rejoicing came because the Master included them in His work, empowered them for victory, and repeated the process over and over again. He will do the same partnership with you.
Romans 14:17 “The kingdom of God is not meat or drink, but righteousness, peace and joy in the Holy Spirit.”
Trust the Lord Jesus. Believe in His promises and His power. Then enter into the opportunities He gives you to increase His Kingdom love and blessing. It will call for risk and cost you everything, but will multiply your faith and joy.
Ask Him to trust you with the “talents” of His Kingdom,
