Hello Friends: 6.9.2011- Keeping Jesus First

Hello Friends,

This is graduation season. Denise and I are having our first child graduate from high school this week, so our brains are pretty much immersed in this great time of expectation and hope. I remember when I graduated from high school, college, and most recently, from my master’s degree studies.  It felt great.

So, congratulations to all our students that are graduating right now. Blessings to you!

I giggle when I consider what the cartoonist Garry Trudeau once said about commencement speeches. He theorized that “they were invented largely in the belief that graduating students should never be released into the world until they have been properly sedated.”  It’s true that commencement speeches can often be quite boring, but the adventure that awaits is far from that. It’s certain to be full of challenges, fear, excitement, wonder, wins and losses.

Remember to keep Jesus first. The rest will take care of itself.

Solomon says it this way: “Remember your Creator in the days of your youth, before the evil days come…” Remember your Creator. Don’t forget about God. Statistics tell us that 80% of teenagers will leave the church after the age of 18. Don’t let that be said of you. Keep Jesus first. Remember your Creator!
