Hello Friends: 6.30.11- A Little Sunshine

Hello Friends,

Here we are once again, running into July and we are stuck under a cloud of darkness. Granted we have had a few days of sun and allegedly nice weather is coming down the pike for the weekend; however, it doesn’t seem like Summer wants to join us for very long. So, if the sun doesn’t want to shine on us, I suggest we take matters in our own hands and bring a little light to those around us.

Matthew 5:14-16 in the Message encourages us…

“…You’re here to be light, bringing out the God-colors in the world. God is not a secret to be kept. We’re going public with this, as public as a city on a hill. If I make you light-bearers, you don’t think I’m going to hide you under a bucket, do you? I’m putting you on a light stand. Now that I’ve put you there on a hilltop, on a light stand—shine! Keep open house; be generous with your lives. By opening up to others, you’ll prompt people to open up with God, this generous Father in heaven.”

There is nothing like being surprised by a friend, a family member or even a stranger, with a kind gesture. Kindness has this way of brightening up someone’s day. No matter how big or small, an act of kindness will make someone feel loved and encouraged. If we are going to be God’s light and representation here on earth, let’s be a good reflection, a light that could not be mistaken.

As you go about your week and celebrations this weekend, I encourage you to put someone else first. Take a moment and think of someone you can bless. Say a kind word, give a small gift, allow someone else to go first in line for the BBQ that you are dying to dig into, tell your family how much you love them. It doesn’t have to be much, but I guarantee it will brighten their day.

Happy 4th of July everyone! Thank you to everyone who has so willingly served to give us the freedom we enjoy everyday.
