Stories, thoughts and reflections on the Bible from the WSFC Staff.
Bottom line: I love the Book of Acts.
Luke, one of the disciples, is the author of both Acts and the Book of Luke. In Acts 1:1 Luke tells us that in his first book (Luke) he “dealt with all that Jesus began to do and teach until the day when he was taken up…” The Book of Acts then is an account of what took place following the Ascension of Jesus, beginning with the outpouring of the Holy Spirit. With the outpouring of the Spirit came POWER for the believer to “do and teach” as well!
DO: “Go therefore and make disciples of all nations…”
TEACH: “teaching them to observe all that I (Jesus) have commanded you…”
We have the authority and the anointing to “do and teach” as Jesus did when he was on the earth. We are his hands and mouth now, with Spirit-empowerment to live as Jesus lived, and teach as he taught.
You may be thinking…I can’t do and say the things that Jesus did! He was, well…you know, God!
And you would be right.
But, the Spirit of God CAN within YOU!
As a matter of fact, with the Spirit, you can do GREATER things than Jesus did when he walked our planet. John 14:12 captures Jesus’ own words: “Whoever believes in me will also do the works that I do; and greater works than these will he do, because I am going to the Father.”
Let’s do and teach like Jesus.
By being filled with the Holy Spirit, like Jesus was!
