Stories, thoughts and reflections on the Bible from the WSFC Staff.
This weeks devotional thought comes from one of our pastors, Cory Knowland.
“Whenever, though, they turn to face God as Moses did, God removes the veil and there they are—face-to-face! They suddenly recognize that God is a living, personal presence, not a piece of chiseled stone. And when God is personally present, a living Spirit, that old, constricting legislation is recognized as obsolete. We’re free of it! All of us! Nothing between us and God, our faces shining with the brightness of his face. And so we are transfigured much like the Messiah, our lives gradually becoming brighter and more beautiful as God enters our lives and we become like him.” 2 Corinthians 3:16-18 (The Message)
Paul is comparing the old covenant, the law, with the beauty and availability we now have with direct access to the Creator through Jesus. We’re offered eternal freedom and the ability to be God’s real and accurate reflection of His love and grace to this earth, “our faces shining with the brightness of His face”.
As this “veil” lifts daily through intentionally connecting with the Lord, we not only have available to us a closer, deeper and intimate relationship with God, but we begin to take on His Glory in a sense, reflecting Him and His attributes more and more as we commune with Him personally. Now the Lord is Spirit (the new law and covenant), “and where the Spirit of the Lord is there is freedom” (2 Corinthians 3:17). Freedom for us, and for all of those we are privileged to share this truth with on this big blue orb called EARTH.
Holy Spirit, you are welcome in my heart and life, now. Lord, lead me. Fill me. Grant me wisdom beyond my grasp. Use me to reflect you well. Heal my heart, mind, body and spirit through this eternal covenant. Bless me, oh Lord, with your presence, power and Spirit. Show me where You are and what You are doing so I can join you there, and reflect you well. Amen.
