Stories, thoughts and reflections on the Bible from the WSFC Staff.
“Because I belong, I am in a right place–a found place.”
These were the words of a person in my small group, who spoke about her experience of belonging with Christ and in the body of Christ during this season. They were powerful words to hear because of how she spoke them. She spoke them as a declaration, she really believed it.
Lostness and not-belonging can so often be the human experience in this world, especially during this season where isolation and loneliness have become all too familiar for so many of us. Although most of us desire to walk alongside others in our journey with Christ, it can be hard sometimes to find that connection. It’s more than just wanting to fit in with a certain group of people, it runs deeper than that. I think most of of desire a place to be seen, known and heard and to seek the presence of God as we journey with others toward God.
When we gather together in the name of Jesus to worship, pray for each other, share our stories and dive into God’s word we can experience God’s presence and experience transformation with others. We know this because God gives us a promise in Matthew 18:20: “For where two or three are gathered in my name, there I am with them.”
We weren’t meant to walk the spiritual life alone. We need each other for encouragement, inspiration, accountability, comfort and care. In community, we find friends and spiritual companions. It’s a place to laugh and cry together. It’s a place to find belonging.
That’s the beauty of a small group and what we have been experiencing in this season of House Churches, Bible Studies and Small Groups at West Salem Foursquare. Whether groups have met online or in-person, our community has been witnessing a different kind of togetherness. We continue to see and hear firsthand, the activity of God in each other’s lives as we have welcomed others into homes and on our screens on a weekly or monthly basis.
If you have yet to find a House Church or Small Group, and you desire to be a part of one, please don’t hesitate to reach out. Consider this your personal invitation to find a place to belong and move toward Jesus with a group of other believers. Now is the time!
You are invited to go to wsfc.org and click on House Churches or Small Groups to find a group either online or in-person. Our Fall group sign-ups will be happening soon for men and women. We hope to see you at one of our small groups, Bible studies or house churches soon!
