Stories, thoughts and reflections on the Bible from the WSFC Staff.

I was having a devotional time at a local café when I couldn’t help overhear some folks talking about a recent episode of American Idol. Admittedly, the Fehlen family has been watching for a couple of years and we’re getting down to the final batch of contestants, so I was interested (ie: eavesdropping!).

Like us, these folks were anticipating who the victor would be. Who would get the title of American Idol? They were absolutely ‘caught up’ in the hype and I think I noticed them beginning to froth at the mouth! As I quietly read the following passage from Revelation 9 I kept drifting in and out of their conversation:

“They did not stop worshiping idols of gold, silver, bronze, stone and wood – idols that cannot see or hear or walk! And they did not repent of their murders, their magic arts, their sexual immorality or their thefts.” Revelation 9:20-21

Does America have idols? You bet it does. They are everywhere! We make decisions constantly regarding our worship and focus. Will we pander to the desires of our flesh? Will we give preference to worldly possessions and monetary gain? Our idols may not be as obvious as Revelation 9 describes them, however, they are nonetheless an issue to be reckoned with!

The Bible says to “love the Lord your God with your whole heart, mind and soul”. I believe this is the cure for the American Idols!
