Back To The Simple Things

Wsfchurch   -

HELLO FRIENDS,

Sometimes we make following Jesus way more complicated than it needs to be. We turn it into checklists, routines, and trying to “get it right.” But this line from Center by Bethel really hits home:

“Maybe we’ve made this complicated
More than it was ever meant to be
Hasn’t it always been about the same thing
Lord, bring us back to simple things.”

That’s it. It’s always been about Jesus. Loving Him. Following Him. Trusting Him. But somewhere along the way, we pile on expectations, stress, and distractions, and before we know it, we’re exhausted—trying to do for God instead of just being with Him.

Colossians 1:17 reminds us, “He is before all things, and in Him all things hold together.” Jesus is the one holding everything together—not us. When we try to take control, we just make a mess of things. But when we come back to the simple truth—just loving and following Him—there’s peace.

And then the second verse of the song hits even harder:

“Teach us to discern the moment
When to serve and when to sit here at Your feet
Keep us awake to what’s important
Just like Mary chose the better thing.”

This takes me straight to Luke 10, where Mary is sitting at Jesus’ feet while Martha is running around trying to make everything perfect. And Jesus tells Martha, “You are anxious and troubled about many things, but one thing is necessary. Mary has chosen the better part.”

That’s a hard one, right? Because serving is good. Doing things for God is good. Serving is even one of our “Big Three”  at WSFC, But sometimes, we get so caught up in the doing that we forget the being. We need the wisdom to know when it’s time to serve and when it’s time to just sit with Jesus—to slow down, to listen, to rest in Him.

So maybe today’s the day to stop overcomplicating it. To let go of the pressure we put on ourselves. To come back to the simple things: loving Jesus, walking with Him, trusting that He’s got us. Knowing when to move and when to be still.

Because it’s always been about Him. And it always will be.

Love y’all. Let’s keep it simple.
