Kindness and Generosity
HELLO FRIENDS,
In the Pause Reading Plan, we are spending some time in the book of Luke. I was challenged by a particular story told by Jesus with two main characters: A rich man and a poor man named Lazarus.
To summarize this story in Luke 16, the poor man, Lazarus, dies and goes to heaven while the rich man dies and spends eternity in Hell for “wasting his days in conspicuous consumption” (MSG vs 19)
Kind of a bummer for him… but ok… You following???
The rich man calls out for mercy and to warn his family about what is to come if they don’t turn their lives around. The rich man is told that his family has everything they need on Earth to be guided in the right direction. End of story…
As I read that story, I couldn’t help but think to myself:
– How am I spending my time on Earth?
– Am I being attentive to the needs of others, especially the vulnerable and marginalized?
– How am I responding to God’s call to care for them?
It comes down to two words for me… Kindness and generosity. I think these two words go hand in hand. To be kind is to be generous with our time, words, wisdom, love, money, and the list goes on.
I challenge you to ask yourself those three questions I mentioned above..
Reflect, be attentive, respond to God’s call on your life, and cling to the Word Of God for that is “everything you need to be guided in the right direction.”
