A Note From Pastor John On Election Day
HELLO FRIENDS,
I am writing this on Tuesday, November 5 at 9:51 am.
The reason I’m giving you that level of detail is to clearly express, and ensure that you clearly understand, that I have written this BEFORE our country knows the official (or even unofficial) outcome of today’s Presidential election.
With that in mind…I want to pastorally say a couple of important things…
1. I am already loving our new President.
Matthew 5:43-45 says, “You have heard that it was said, ‘Love your neighbor and hate your enemy.’ But I tell you, love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you, that you may be children of your Father in heaven.”
2. I am already praying for our new President.
1 Timothy 2:1-4 says “I urge, then, first of all, that petitions, prayers, intercession and thanksgiving be made for all people—for kings and all those in authority, that we may live peaceful and quiet lives in all godliness and holiness.”
3. I am already speaking well of our new President.
Colossians 4:6 says, “Let your conversation be always full of grace, seasoned with salt, so that you may know how to answer everyone.”
Loved ones, hear me in this….
To some of you, the election results may not go the way you want or anticipate. That’s OK, because the U.S. political process, while necessary, has little to do with how God is saving the world. Jesus is still King, and His Kingdom still does not depend upon political contests.
To others of you, the election results may go exactly the way you hope for. That’s great, but don’t brag. Be humble and kind. Author Brian Zahnd says this, “It’s more important that your soul be filled with love than it is for your political team to win the game.”
Please receive this pastoral exhortation, and apply it to your hearts, conversations, and social media interactions.
Grace & Peace,
Pastor John
