Happy Thanksgiving From WSFC

Wsfchurch   -

HELLO FRIENDS,

Every year, for the month of November, My wife and I turn our fridge into a “thankful Fridge”. Every day, we take a sticky note and write something that we are thankful for and stick it to our fridge. By Thanksgiving our fridge looks terrible, but is filled with dozens of things that we are Thankful for in this season. Every time we open the fridge for our hourly snack we are reminded of the people and things that make us happy and have been a blessing to us.

How great is it that we have a dedicated day where we get to acknowledge the things that we are thankful for in this world? It is important to eat good food, be with the people we love, watch football, and eat more food…. But it is most important and therapeutic to take a moment and really think about the blessings we have been given every day.

“Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.” Philippians 4:6-7 (NIV)

“Rejoice always, pray continually, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.” 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18 (NIV)

“Devote yourselves to prayer, being watchful and thankful.” Colossians 4:2 (NIV)

I often mock my wife when she pushes me to fill out my sticky note and decorate our fridge every day, but it really is an important thing that we do because it pulls me out of the, often, selfish mind space and recenters my mind to think about the countless blessings that are around me: clean water, electricity, sunny Fall weather, a beautiful Church Community, a Savior that loves and takes care of me…

Can I encourage you today to do the same? Take a piece of paper or some sticky notes and list the things that you are thankful for. Make this an intentional moment for you and your family. There are so many things that we take for granted! When you are done, put that list somewhere that you can see it for the remainder of November. Let it be a reminder for you that you are loved, you are blessed, and you have a God that is looking out for you.

Have a Happy Thanksgiving and See you Sunday!
