Practical Ways To Put God First
HELLO FRIENDS,
I’m going to be honest with you; I have struggled this week with what to share. I’ve drafted a couple of different things I’m sure would have done the trick but none were sitting well with me. That’s until WSFC’s Worship Night. Something clicked. I sincerely hope you were able to make it. Did you feel what I did? Was the Holy Spirit moving at WSFC or what!? Opportunities to worship Jesus Christ are both humbling and fulfilling to my spirit.
Not sure about you but sometimes I need a gentle or maybe not-so-gentle reminder of how we are to prioritize God in this life. Do I put Christ First, Third, Ninth? There’s no trick question here, the answer is First. God wants to be first place. It’s easy to put other people/things before Him but remember we are his most prized possession and the actions we take and the words we speak should be a reflection of our heavenly father.
Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge Him, and He shall direct your paths (Proverbs 3:5-6).
There’s a song I might listen to on repeat (daily), the lyrics have a way of reminding me to internally check if God is First:
“I don’t wanna love what the world loves
I don’t wanna chase what the world does
I only want you
I only want you
First thing’s first
I seek Your will
Not my own
Surrender all my wants to you
Keep the first thing first
To live Your truth
Walk Your ways
Set my eyes
Lord I fix my face on you
All my desires reversed
To keep the first thing first”
Ways to Put God First:
Pray- You cannot talk to God too much and He never is too busy for you.
Read- Dive into your bible. Daily read about God’s love and promises for you.
Act- Be God’s hands and feet here on earth by serving. Join a small group or simply find community in the Lord’s people by attending consistently. *If you are looking to serve in children’s ministry you can contact me at: (lorena.akerman@wsfc.org)
