Stories, thoughts and reflections on the Bible from the WSFC Staff.

Welcome to 2020.

It’s slightly surreal to think that we’re in the YEAR TWO THOUSAND AND TWENTY.  No, actually it is VERY surreal.

Yet here we are. A fresh year. A fresh decade. A new season full of possibility and promise.

However, unfortunately, it can become like any other year or decade if you and I don’t make some important decisions.  Let me mention a few that I think could be very helpful for us in 2020, in order to truly discover the possibility and promise that lies ahead.

1.  Keep the Lord at the center of your heart.
Matthew 6:33 reminds us to “seek first his (God’s) kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.” Those are words to live by!

2.  Deeply value family and friends.
If you’re married, love your spouse wholeheartedly. If you’re parenting, lead your family in the fear and knowledge of the Lord. If you’re single, invest passionately into a core group of friends and allow them to invest into you as well. Deeply value others in your life.

3.  Slow down.
The Psalmist invites us to “be still and know that I am God” (46:10).  Just for clarity sake, the “I” in this verse is NOT you or me…It’s the God of Universe, and the last time I checked “He’s got the whole world in his hands.” So…slow down. Rest. Trust.

4.  Live like Jesus.
The mission of our church is To Make More and Maturing Disciples. To be a disciple of Jesus is to be an apprentice or close follower of Him and His lifestyle. Sure, it may mean that we live like he lived when he walked the earth a long time ago…but even more importantly, live like he WOULD if he were walking it RIGHT NOW.

Here’s to 2020!  And, here’s to all the possibility and promise it can bring, as we partner with God and His Kingdom!

Grace & Peace,

Pastor John
