Stories, thoughts and reflections on the Bible from the WSFC Staff.
I recently got back from Israel. I had the amazing opportunity to go see where Jesus walked, preached and changed the world. It was so much fun, so educational and I would HIGHLY recommend the experience to everyone.
On the trip we had a tour guide named Abraham. He was the absolute best. He had a great sense of humor, he was very knowledgeable and passionate about Israel and, most of all, he was fun to be around.
Every morning Abraham would greet us on the bus and tell us our daily schedule. He would go over the sites we would see, where we would stop for lunch and any other important details. He often would explain that we got going early so that we could beat the other tourists to our first site. Then he would add, “with God’s help”.
That began to be my favorite part of the explanation. Abraham recognized that we could plan everything right, but at the the end day if God wasn’t helping us there was a good chance it wouldn’t happen.
It reminds me of Proverbs 16:9, “We can make our plans, but the Lord directs our steps and establishes them.”
I want to take Abraham’s phrase and turn it into my lifestyle. When I look at the plans I have for my day, or even my week — no matter how big, or how small — I first want to submit it all to God and say, “only with your help.” Because at the end of the day, every good and perfect gift comes from him (James 1:17), and I want to recognize and become aware of that more every day.
I hope and pray that you too would begin to see where he is helping you and bringing his goodness to your life.
