Stories, thoughts and reflections on the Bible from the WSFC Staff.
Just a simple encouragement for your day…
Jesus said, “It is written, ‘Man does not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds from the mouth of God’.” (Matthew 4:4)
But first, this stress-inducing illustration: Have you ever bought a new dresser, bookshelf, or desk from Ikea? I have. In fact, I’ve been led again and again to that menagerie of menacing merchandise to face the fright and torture that ensues. Some assembly required. Well, except for not having to glue-together the sawdust that comprises the “wood” parts of Ikea furniture, all assembly is required. Until you get the hang of it, it isn’t easy or self-explanatory. Do you know the single most important item that you’ll ever take out of one of those awkward Ikea boxes? That’s right, buddy. It’s the instructions. Can’t live without ‘em. (Ok, that’s over. Now, take a moment to catch your breath after being made to re-live the anxiety of your Ikea experiences. Sorry I had to put you through that.)
So, you’re reading this blog because you actively attend or have a friendly connection to West Salem Foursquare Church. It’s a pretty great place. There are really only two things that link your experiences between WSFC and Ikea. Number one: At certain events, you can also get tasty meat balls at WSFC. And, number two: In both places, the key to success is reading and following the instructions.
Here at West Salem, you are encouraged to follow the Lead Pastor’s example by daily reading “the instructions”, the Bible, the Word of God. “Get a word from God from the Word of God each day”, he says often. As a veteran of many years of leading and encouraging other Christians to learn from the Word, I am writing this to point the way to success in the Christian life. So much of success is dependent upon reading and following the book of instructions. Read it. Think about it. Study it. Talk about it. Memorize it. Put together what it says to put together. Glue where it says to glue. Don’t do what it says to not do. It’s much, much simpler that way. You and I cannot get enough of His Word. Once you discover the satisfaction of drinking it in, it’s the river that will never run dry.
Every day you have a new day of life to unwrap, organize, and put together. Are you reading the instructions? Or, are you doing what we have all done many times – just trying to figure it out without any help? Instead, you can get connected with a few people, get down to the roots of your life, and let Jesus supply the instruction, the Word, that grows new life in you.
Let’s grow together,
Pastor Rich Marshall
